Après Corsair et Westjet, c’est au tour de United Airlines de s’ajouter à la liste des transporteurs qui desservent Québec, avec son tout nouveau service quotidien sans escale sur Chicago. United est le deuxième plus grand transporteur aérien au monde et compte 5 plaques tournantes majeures aux États-Unis, Chicago étant la plus importante avec 650 départs quotidiens.
Comme vous le savez, et nous en avons discuté souvent sur ce blogue, Chicago constitue une plaque tournante majeure qui fait partie de nos priorités depuis plusieurs années. Il s’agit d’une condition pour renforcer la position de Québec à l’échelle internationale et soutenir le développement de marchés clés comme ceux des croisières et des congrès. Pour toute notre équipe, c’est donc un coup dont nous sommes fiers et qui nous permet de donner suite concrètement à vos attentes.
L’année 2008 est décidément bien enclenchée : notre aéroport est en plein essor, les passagers sont au rendez-vous (le trafic passager a connu une hausse record de 12 % en 2007), les travaux de modernisation avancent rapidement et contribuent déjà à attirer de nouveaux transporteurs comme Westjet et United Airlines.

Modernization, I often say, is a stage which will continue well beyond 2008. Our vision can be seen in the upgrades to our facilities as well as the increase in the services, passengers, numbers of flights and carriers we now have. These updates are part of a cycle: having more passengers means more flights; more flights means more carriers; more carriers means more competition; and more competition will lead to better prices.
Our strategic development is just beginning. On this subject, I invite you to consult our website to see the extent of destinations offered from the airport. It is clear to me that we now depart on our travels from Quebec!

It is up to me to break the ice on our very new blog! The drive to modernize the airport began last May with the announcement of financial contributions from the governments of Quebec and Canada. Now, nearly six months later, I can tell you that work is well underway. The administrative offices were relocated and temporary facilities are now in place to allow the next phases of work to begin. In two months – that is, next January – we will proceed with the demolition of the central section of the terminal. It will undoubtedly be the most outstanding moment of our modernization efforts whereby the airport will literally be divided in two! Naturally, all possible measures will be taken in order to minimize the impact to passengers.
